Understanding the Thermic Cycle

At Sauna Hug, we gently encourage you through something called the thermic cycle - a simple, natural rhythm of heat, cool, rest, and hydrate.

You might arrive thinking the sauna is all about the heat, but it’s only one part of the experience. The real magic happens when all the elements come together.

The Heat

This is where it begins.

Stepping into the sauna, you’re met with deep, enveloping warmth. Your muscles start to soften, your mind begins to quiet, and your body gradually lets go of any tension it’s been holding onto.

There’s no rush here. You stay for as long as feels good, listening to your body, not the clock.

The Cool

After the heat comes the contrast.

Cooling down can look however you need it to. It might be a light rinse under the shower, or a more immersive experience of gently lowering yourself into the cold plunge.

For others, it’s even simpler. Standing barefoot on the grass, lying back, or letting the fresh air meet your skin.

This shift in temperature is where your body really wakes up, circulation boosts, senses sharpen, and you feel that unmistakable freshness.

The Rest

And then… the part I always like to promote! The rest is where the magic is.

This is the pause. The moment your body recalibrates. Your heart rate slows, your breathing deepens, and everything begins to settle into a place of balance again.

Rest might look like sitting quietly on the decking with a drink, wrapped in a towel.

It might be a conversation with someone.

Or it could be a few minutes of stillness on a chair observing the nature.

There’s no right way to do it - it’s simply about allowing your body the space it needs.

Hydrate

Between each round, take a moment to drink water and rehydrate.

It’s an essential part of the cycle, helping your body recover and keeping everything feeling good as you move through your session.

Finding Your Rhythm

This cycle - heat, cool, rest, hydrate - is something you can repeat a few times during your session.

In a one-hour visit, most people naturally move through it around three times. Each round feels slightly different. You might notice your body softening more deeply, your mind becoming quieter, or a sense of lightness creeping in.

There’s no perfect way to do it. No pressure to follow it exactly.

It’s simply an invitation, to slow down, to tune in, and to move in a way that feels good for you.

If you’re ready to feel it for yourself, come and join us. Book your session, and settle into the cycle.

Your sauna hug is waiting 🤍
